Wilson-Mitchell-Gray-Thompson families from Attala & Chickasaw Counties in Mississippi

Tag Archives: Graves

I’ve started a virtual cemetery on findagrave.com that will contain photos, transcriptions, locations, etc. of the Wilson-Gray family graves. So far, the graves of these family members are posted there:

William Ransom Wilson, his wife Leona A. Mitchell Wilson, his son Willie Arnold Wilson and Willie’s wife Anna Belle Gray Wilson.

James Bennett Wilson, William Ransom Wilson’s brother who was briefly married to his widow Leona.

Dixon Lewis Wilson, eldest brother of James and William, and his daughter Ada V. Wilson, his son Isom “Ike” J. Wilson and Ike’s wife Gradye Hughes Wilson.

Joel Fowler Wilson, father of William, James and Dixon.

John C. Gray, uncle of Anna Belle Gray Wilson.

More to come.

Located on Hwy 43 N about 12 miles northeast of Kosciusko. The church, old schoolhouse and cemetery are on the east side of the highway (see photos of church). ALBERT WASHINGTON MITCHELL (1810-1881) and his wife SUSAN CONE MITCHELL (1809-1892) are buried toward the back fence.

“Sacred to the memory of Albert W. Mitchell, who departed this life May 21, 1881 in the 71 year of his age. He was a Christian, a devoted member of the Methodist E. Church South and a bright and shining light of the Masonity Fraternity. He died in blissful hope of immortal life.”

Albert Washington Mitchell and Susan Cone Mitchell are the parents of Albert Pierce (Pearce) Mitchell (burial place unknown), the father of Leona A. Mitchell Wilson (1868-1930) who is the mother of Willie Arnold Wilson (1902-1948).

KOSCIUSKO CITY CEMETERY (in the old section of this very large cemetery on South Huntington Street)

FANNY HARPER (Frances Hines Mitchell Harper; 1841-1902) – with first husband Albert Pierce Mitchell are the parents of Leona A. Mitchell Wilson (1868-1930), mother of Willie Arnold Wilson (1902-1948). Her second husband: Frank M. Harper.
JOEL FOWLER WILSON — with wife Ellender Coker Wilson (died of tuberculosis and is buried in Joshua, TX) are the parents of William Ransom Wilson, the husband of Leona A. Mitchell Wilson and father of Willie Arnold Wilson.

Also buried here is Joel’s son Rev. Dixon Wilson, whose grave includes a photograph. Other members of the extended Wilson family are buried here as well.
